Here is the current state of our kitchen table.  We rarely eat at out table anyways, so this is not too disruptive.  We  have had a full week of rocket building.  ( Boy’s new rockets on the bottom of picture. ) We spent a bunch of time flying the plane today.  Had 3 sessions of about 15 minutes flying today.  2 in the morning, and one after lunch.  Even though I had some ugly landings, the plane is still very flyable.  I got up the courage to do a couple flips today.

We went down to the State ModelPort Park in the evening, to see the real pro’s fly their planes.  We sat down and watched a few people fly, even saw an awesome helicopter pilot.  The next guy asked if I wanted to fly his big yellow cub plane.  It was an offer I could not pass up.  He got it up and running, and I was able to fly it for about 20 minutes.  It was really nice, and I learned a lot from him.  We even put the boys on it for a few minutes too.

Nathan has worked really hard.  He turned 9 in February and just received his Bear award for cub scouts.  He also has earned his gold arrow point.  Now he will work on arrow points, arrow points and more arrow points.

We dragged up all the rockets we have out of  the basement and worked on getting them all mission worthy this weekend.  We also went out and purchased parts for another 5 rockets too.  After some good time with the boys, we got 24 rockets all fixed up and ready to go.  Here is a picture of several of them.  Also a picture of my new rocket, it has a D engine for stage 1, and a C engine for the second engine.

Today we woke up early (6:30 am on a Saturday) and went to the park for the Teach the Children 5K.  We ran along the Jordan Parkway trail, so I decided I would stay back with the boys because I was worried about them running along the Jordan River.  I am a proud, happy mom.  Nathan (9 yrs.) passed us all and finished in 38:40 minutes.  Benjamin (7 yrs.) insisted mom hold his hand so I would keep pace with him.  Benjamin and I finished in 42:50 minutes.  Benjamin was so happy that we passed dad.  Aaron came in at 43:20 minutes.  When we started the race I was a little sad that I would have to “stay back” with the boys and not run the whole way, but it was on of the best mornings together as a family.  Ben and I would run for a while then speed walk for Ben to catch his breath. (He has allergies so bad he can barely breath through his nose.)  I just had to post how much fun we had and how glad I am that we woke up early today.

Wolfram’s web search wolframalpha went live last night.  It is a very unique way to search data.  When you search Google for something like, ‘world’s tallest mountains’, you will just get results from people’s web pages that happen to contain those words.  Wolfram’s hope is to get his algorithms tuned to actually give you a list of the world’s tallest mountains.

Here are some examples:

1.  Compute PI

2. Father’s Mother’s Sister’s Son

3.  mortgage $150,000, 6.5%, 30 years

It is still limited in the number of searches you can do an hour, but is still worth looking at.  This guy is a really smart mathematics nerd, and I have read one of his 1000+ page books.  He is smart, in fact he wrote mathmatica software package, but really full of himself too.

Steve Eves build a 1/10th model of the Saturn V rocket.

36-foot-tall 1,600-pound.  The rocket flew to an altitude of about 4000 feet on over 8000 lbs of thrust from nine solid rocket motors, eight 13,000ns N-Class motors and a 77,000ns P-Class motor.

Here is a video of the launch from late last month:

Monterey was the reason for the trip.  As you may know, I love to read John Steinbeck, and this was his early stomping grounds.  Cannery Row, Long Valley and Sweet Thursday all have their root with this area of California.

We left the Redwoods, and went right to the beach in the bay.  It was the boy’s first time at the ocean, and they had a great time playing in it.  The day was really warm for the area, near 95 degrees in mid-april.

The next day we went to the world famous Aquariam.  It was awesome, and just like the giant redwoods, cannot be represented well with pictures.  Either way here are our shots to view:

Sorry about the delay, got tied up.

Next leg of the trip went from Folsom to the Redwoods.  We took I-80 west to the bay area, got lost a bunch of times, mostly by exiting too early.  After some turning back we finally ended up on the right mountain road to the Redwood forest.  This was my first time out there, and Erika’s second trip.

We took the boys on a 2+ mile hike, all around the park.   It was really quiet and peaceful there.  In fact we even got to walk up to a deer, within 5 feet.
