We all went camping this weekend, and had a great time. In keeping with our minimalism, we only took a very few things. Everyone had their 6 liter stuff sack, backpacking sleeping bag and a bed roll. For food we kept the menu simple, with all homeade food that just needed to be reheated. Erika had a great idea of having a ice free cooler. All the food was frozen, and extra juices were put in the cooler instead of ice. It stayed very cold for the 3 days, and worked out well.
We played in the Provo river, went on a nice hike, visited our Geocache, and played lots of card games. All in all, it was a great weekend away from the world.
Aaron and I ran the Salt Lake City Half Marathon today. It was beautiful weather and now I can check this off my to do list. Aaron finished in 2 hours and 34 min. I finished in 2 hours and 45 min. (but my chip time is all messed up, it doesn’t show me starting, go figure) I spent 20 minutes in line for a port o potty as the race was beginning, but there were a couple hundred people waiting for the same thing. I didn’t get to run with Aaron as he got herded to the start line as I was waiting for the bathroom. I was looking forward to running with him as we have trained together and I missed running with him. It was kind of boring due to not running with anyone I knew. I had to just keep pushing myself along. I ran it and have the sore muscles and blisters to prove it. This was a goal for me ever since I ran the SLC 5K last year and watched all the half marathoners and marathoners come in. I thought it would be an awesome accomplishment. I have really enjoyed running, but I am going to cut back my miles and start biking more so that I might be able to catch up to Aaron in that department. Also I am taking swimming lessons so that I can hopefully conquer another goal. YEAH me! I did it, I did it!
We had the biggest Christmas ever at the Searle family. Here is all the presents that we got. About 1/2 are from family or neighbors, and other are from/for our little family.
Normally we only spend ~ $35 bucks on each other, but we spent a bit more, and got some nice stuff for everyone.
We got the boys both some nice skateboards, from Zumiez, one of the best places to get a board. They have great service their too. They boys have been enjoying their boards for several weeks now. Benjamin was trying to pull off a funny face, so don’t think he looks like that now. Nathan went skiing last week, and has fallen in love with thermals, and wears them as pajamas now.
Both boys got new helmets to use while skating. Benjamin was really happy to get a green one.
We also got them some miscellaneous science and other toys, some magnet games, and legos, and books.
Erika got a iPod, and I got some clothes and shoes. ( to replace (maybe) my still in use, 11 year old mission shoes ).
Even with us going big with the presents this year, we still managed to get all of the boxes, wrapping paper and other packing material to all fit into one box, size 12 x 10 x 15. A software vendor actually shipped me a smoked turkey this year. It was really good, and tasty.
We had the best day ever yesterday, we all played PS3 all day and only burned about 11 calories the entire day. We all love to play the Pixel Junk Monsters game. It is really fun, addictive, and simple to play. All you do is build and upgrade little towers that shoot monsters that are going to eat your little babies.
I have the most wonderful husband. He is also the computer geek in the family and is always trying to get me to blog on the computer. I finally figured out how to adjust the picture sizes so that I can upload them to the web page. Now I will try harder to keep it up to date. (no promises) This will be my 4th post in one day. You are the greatest. I love you.
Over conference weekend the boys humored their mom and wife with a drive in the Alpine Loop to look at fall leaves even though it was raining. Because it was raining there were no leaves to crunch under my feet, but it was beautiful.
Erika and I have signed up for our first 1/2 marathon race. We have started running / cycling / walking / cross-training again. We plan on racing at the SLC race in April. Hopefully we are ready by then, to go the distance.
Today we woke up early (6:30 am on a Saturday) and went to the park for the Teach the Children 5K. We ran along the Jordan Parkway trail, so I decided I would stay back with the boys because I was worried about them running along the Jordan River. I am a proud, happy mom. Nathan (9 yrs.) passed us all and finished in 38:40 minutes. Benjamin (7 yrs.) insisted mom hold his hand so I would keep pace with him. Benjamin and I finished in 42:50 minutes. Benjamin was so happy that we passed dad. Aaron came in at 43:20 minutes. When we started the race I was a little sad that I would have to “stay back” with the boys and not run the whole way, but it was on of the best mornings together as a family. Ben and I would run for a while then speed walk for Ben to catch his breath. (He has allergies so bad he can barely breath through his nose.) I just had to post how much fun we had and how glad I am that we woke up early today.
Benjamin caught 1 fish this year.
Nathan caught 1 fish this year
Aaron caught 4 fish this year
and I caught 9 fish this year. I win! It sure beats being skunked last year. I was the only one who didn’t catch any fish the year before. I caught the first fish on both days we were there too.
It was really windy and cold on the 2nd day there. Maybe next year we will have an ice shelter.
The boys have been begging us to go bowling for a few months now, and we finally caved in and took them on Friday. I have not taken a day off for months, and have not been accruing vacation time for some time. ( Maximum days off supply achieved) So I took the day off and we went to ‘Fat Cats’ bowling lanes. We planned to bowl 3 games and I about crapped when the guy said that will be $65. Either way we went for it, and had a great time. We bowled for over an hour and to my great surprise and joy their internet connection was down, so they could not process our debit card, so we got the days events for free. One of the best days for a cheap, cheap man.
Ben did really well for a new guy.
Nathan concentrating on his throw.
Benjamin using the force to move the ball to the other side of the lane.
Erika and Benjamin sharing love when Benjamin’s scores topped Erika’s.
